Surfing the Web for Soccer Information

If you’re a huge soccer fan in the United States your options for news coverage of your favorite sport are severely limited.  The New York Times and other major metropolitan newspapers often have a blurb about the English Premier League each weekend,  if Major League Soccer (MLS) is in the playoffs then maybe there will be some coverage, and of course if a World Cup is happening there will be a frenzy, but otherwise it’s a barren news landscape.  Therefore soccer fans must turn to the internet for their daily news fix; luckily there are some quality sites that provide all the info you need.

My three favorite are Soccernet.com, Soccertools.com and PitchInvasion.net, all for differing reasons.  Soccernet.com is a great source of up to the minute news and information on the English Premier League specifically, but also the UEFA Champions League, World Cup qualifying and various other leagues throughout Europe.  This site is owned by ESPN, so naturally their resources are vast and they always have the breaking news you need to know.

Soccertools.com is a great source to get hard to find stats as well as the latest soccer equipment reviews.  They have this wonderful series of ‘Top Ten’ lists where they feature such items as the top ten indoor soccer shoes, top ten goalkeeper gloves, top ten match soccer balls and much more.  In a world of an overabundance of choice that is often debilitating, it’s great to see these lists that are updated monthly and show the current most popular items in each of these categories and really make it easier to choose.

Finally, PitchInvasion.net is a wonderful source for soccer talk and those in-depth, fully researched articles you won’t find anywhere.  Tom Dunmore, an England native now living in Chicago, and his team have really put together a first class operation.  I love the site design and the pictures on the site as they really add some flavor.
